Getting Around Kingston - Transportation Options
As a smaller sized city with big city amenities, Kingston prides itself in being a city that is easy to get around in, with short commute times and a fantastic, walkable waterfront.
Cycling:
The City of Kingston provides racks for parking bicycles at numerous locations along Princess Street in the municipality's downtown core. About half of the bike racks are permanent and are even available to hearty winter commuters. For information on bike racking locations, please visit the City of Kingston website.
In addition, Kingston Transit provides "Rack and Roll" service on their buses from April through November of each year. Rack and Roll is a convenient way to travel by closing the gap between cycling and transit. Now available on every Kingston Transit bus during the cycling season for no extra charge, Rack and Roll offers cyclists a convenient way to travel with their bikes when they choose not to ride.
Public Transit:
Kingston Transit offers 16 main bus routes serviced by over 40 public transit buses, seven days a week. A variety of bus passes are available, but a regular, one-time adult fare is $2.25 and youth/senior fare $2. Per ride costs reduce depending upon type of pass purchased.
Kingston Transit has implemented accessibility features on some buses for people with mobility issues who require the use of wheelchairs, scooters or walkers. These buses feature: an entrance ramp, an adequate turning radius for smaller wheelchairs and scooters, a storage area for walkers, and wheelchair securement systems.
